Vernae Taylor – Breaking Through Barriers

For those who may not be aware of your skill set , experiences and all around abilities, please tell the people who you are , what you do , what you’ve done and what you represent?

My name is Vernae Latrice Taylor, the Founder of Triple Threat Vision LLC (Events, Entertainment, Inspiration) which was birthed out of the idea that in order to excel, one must be multifaceted. I guess you could say that I live my life that way; no limits and you can never put me in a box! I’m a Singer,Writer/Author, Actor, Entrepreneur. I represent those who live life out loud and aren’t afraid to be “dope on purpose!”

Were you always artistically ambitious or was there a moment when you were a child that turned you towards the path you walk today?

According to my family, they discovered I was vocally inclined at age 2. However, my first performance was at 5, alongside my older brother. He continued to groom me for the stage throughout the years and led me to church, which then led me to singing solos, chorale music and taught me about showmanship, worship and ministry. It wasn’t until college that I discovered a love for acting; by way of Musical Theater.

So I saw that you recently released a book, as I am close to finishing my own, when I saw this I was intrigued, what can you tell us about your new book and where can people purchase it?

I recently co-authored Break Through, which is somewhat of a preview to my autobiography that I began writing back in 2008 (that I intend to publish some day). It speaks of my family, upbringing and personal challenges I’ve faced…and gives you a glimpse into my continuous journey of self development. It’s available in the following ways: Direct purchase (autographed) through me; at a store called Mondo in Summit, NJ; the Summit Public Library and of course on amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Break-Through-Featuring-Vernae-Taylor/dp/1938620526

Who is your favorite historical figure?

My favorite historical figure of the past would be Paul Robeson, as he was a Renaissance man who was not only grand in stature, but also powerful and influential. He was multi-talented in ALL areas of the Arts and continued to break down barriers. In addition, my brother, Zakee reminds me of him.
My favorite historical figure of the present would be Michelle Obama. From holding down the First Lady role to the President (my forever President) with such grace, to the life lessons and transparency she offered us in her book, to the way she carries herself and works hard to make a difference, she is “black girl magic” in motion.

If an Actress were to play you in your Autobiographical Film, who would you like it to be and why? How would you describe your singing style and what makes you different from those that came before?

As a young person and throughout college I had always been compared to Nia Long, so I would definitely say she would be a great match. She’s stunningly beautiful and she has a great smile (I’m known for my big smile). I also respect her longevity in this business…yet she seems to never age lol.

If you were to pick a drink to best describe you as an Artist and person, what would it be and why?

Hmmm. That’s a difficult one, as I’m not much of a drinker. But it would have to be a Long Island Ice Tea. I’ve been told that it’s a mixture of many things and it always seems to bring the life and fun out of everybody. That’s me; layered, mixture of things (depending on the day, my mood and how you treat me) and most definitely the life of the party!!

If you could say anything or ask anything of anyone who has passed on, who would it be and what would it be that you ask/say?

My all time favorite was and still is Whitney Houston. I would ask her what is that she needed to be happy or to feel whole. As artists we bare our souls to the world…we remain open and vulnerable in order to pour into others. Yet so many of us feel alone in some cases and don’t always have someone pouring into us with that same intensity.

What is your favorite book?

I have a few favorite books: A Piece of Cake, Mandela’s Way, Disappearing Acts, The Coldest Winter Ever, The Color Purple…to name a few

What is your favorite movie?

I have so many favorite movies: The Five Heartbeats, Love Jones, What’s Love Got to do With It, Boyz n the Hood, The Best Man, He’s Just not that Into You, Bridesmaids, Because I Said So

You are like a jack of many trades , do have any more hidden talents? What is your favorite quote?

I wouldn’t say it’s much of a talent now. But a lot of people don’t know that I used to play the Violin.

What do you feel makes an Artist stand out above the rest?

I believe that in order for an Artist to stand out above the rest, he/she needs to be exactly who they are and recognize that they are a unique force in this world and have something to offer that is different, fresh and new. The idea is to OWN whoever it is that you are!

Favorite Quote :

My favorite quote: “Your Joy is your sorrow unmasked”

Whats next for you? Upcoming Projects?

So much! I’ll be playing Aunt Grace in the Off Broadway Musical Another Chance until Oct. See info here https://anotherchanceplay.com/tickets/
I’ll be back in Atlantic City singing for the show Balance of Love:A Musical Journey. My next publication will be Vol. 1 of a compilation of poetry, Life, Love & Loss. I’m hoping to schedule a Break Through Book Tour, along with a mentoring and empowerment component, more speaking engagements around the country and more of “LIVING LIFE ON PURPOSE!!”
